Assessing Value Co-Creation in Blockchain Enabled Learning Certificates: A Knowledge Management Perspective

Nathalya Guruge, Jyri Vilko (LUT University, Finland)

Proceedings of the 17th International Joint Conference on Knowledge Discovery, Knowledge Engineering and Knowledge Management (KMIS), pp. 267–277

Abstract excerpt

“We apply our model to four illustrative platforms (LearnCoin, Blockcerts, Badgr, and the Learning Economy Foundation), systematically coding each system's support for explicit knowledge externalization/combination, smart-contract-driven workflows, and dialogic customization.”

Note from LearnCoin

This paper describes LearnCoin as a “unified currency for learning” and references a LearnCoin token. Those characterizations reflect pre-2025 marketing material that has since been deprecated.

Current LearnCoin is pure verifiable-credential infrastructure. There is no LearnCoin token, no cryptocurrency component, no token rewards, and no smart-contract-driven value exchange. Issuers pay a subscription; recipients and verifiers pay nothing. For the canonical current architecture, see /standards, /how-it-works, and llms.txt.
